Treatment of Spider Veins with Laser
Vascular treatment with laser by dermatologist Dr. Klein
Spider veins on the legs up to a diameter of about 2 mm can be made to disappear in only a few meetings with the help of the top-class Gentle-YAG Laser of Candela. The intensive laser beam, of which the light is absorbed and transformed into heat, damages the blood vessels permanently and makes them stick together. By the way, a possible treatment by injection has the same effect. But for this the remedy needs to be injected directly into the spider vein and therefore the vessel naturally needs to be bigger than the injection needle. There is also a high possibility to have an allergic reaction on the injection, a risk that can easily be avoided with a laser treatment.

When to begin a treatment?
It is best to carry out a spider vein treatment when it can be made sure that the treated area won’t be exposed to the sun in the next weeks – so the best would be in autumn. But in case you carry long trousers in summer and don’t go for a swim, a treatment is possible throughout the whole year, especially as compression stockings mostly are NOT necessary after a laser treatment.
How many treatments does one have to expect?
Generally an improvement can be seen after the first meeting. The number of treatments necessary is dependant on how many vessels of various thicknesses lie in that area. A larger amount of energy is needed of thicker vessels than for thin ones. This means that the amount of energy of the laser in the first treatment is matched to the thickest vessels. 4-6 weeks later a larger amount of energy is used to remove smaller vessels – this requires 2-3 meetings. One treatment mostly is enough when it is a matter of a few spider veins of about the same size,.
How much does a spider vein treatment cost?
The price is dependant on the expanse of the area that is to be treated. I calculate 150€ for one treatment to an area the size of 7,5×8 cm (60 cm²), which is about the size of a palm (without fingers). The costs are of course less, when there are only a few spider veins. I will gladly inform you in a one-to-one appointment on the procedure of the treatment and the individual costs.
